Our Story

The Costa Rican Nicoya Peninsula, a region known for its pristine beauty and vibrant biodiversity, is facing a devastating environmental crisis. In the past six years alone, a staggering 21% of the area’s precious forests have been lost, largely due to the expansion of cattle ranching and urbanization. The Karen Mogensen Reserve and the forests around it stand as an oasis of hope amid the encroaching development. Our mission is to protect and preserve the natural ecosystems of the forests of the Nicoya Peninsula, including the water sources and wildlife upon which all life depends while educating the public and involving local communities.

U.S. donations are honored through our fiscal sponsor, Green Wave, a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

We are very grateful for the help we have received from the Grateful Bears project. All help is very welcome and needed to protect our forests, water sources and biodiversity!
